Azerbaijani transport ministry removes small, medium buses in centre of Baku

Azerbaijan, Baku, June 8 / Trend , E.Ismayilov/

Temporary interruptions in passenger buses' traffic in Baku are connected with the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry Avtonagliyyatservis Department's replacing small buses and medium-capacity with big-capacity buses of Korean DAEWOO production, more than 200 units of which have been received recently, the department said.

"A total of 49 new buses have already been launched on the routes, particularly routes that pass through the central streets of the city. The process of replacement of medium and small buses with the newly got is expected to be completed up by late June, but most likely it will happen sooner," the source said.

The new buses have already been launched on the route number 4, 125, 70, 169, 54 and 285.

The source said new routes of traffic are currently being developed, if the need arises in the direction of some routes, changes will be made.

Owners of buses, he said, had previously been warned about this process. First, replacement is made in the central routes, especially medium-size buses.

It is planned to launch a large capacity-bus instead two buses of low capacity on a route.

The process of removing small buses in Baku's streets started last year. If earlier this innovation only concerned small vehicles, but now this process concerns also medium-size buses.

The owners of the routes can still launch medium-size buses on other routes or sell them, because they previously had been warned.

Full replacement of low capacity buses with medium and large will be completed by late 2009, the source said.
