Georgian presidential administration "tightens belt"

The Georgian presidential administration and Chancellery of the government cut their financing as part of the regime of the economy mode and "tightening belts", announced by the Georgian president. President Mikheil Saakashvili explained this with the global financial crisis.

Proposals to reduce the funding were submitted to the parliament and will be approved on July 4 after discussions.

Under the draft, the Georgian Presidential Administration's assignment is reduced by 1.7 million lari, and the Chancellery of the Government - by 1 million lari ($1 = 1.64 lari).

Besides, administrative costs of some ministries are cut, as well. In particular, the Defense Ministry's assignment is reduced by 45 million lari, the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure - by 9.5 million, the Ministry of Finance - by 4 million, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources - by 3.6 million, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs - by 650,000, while the Ministry of Culture, Monuments Protection and Sport - by 140,100 lari.
