Georgian Black Sea port of Poti to construct a new facility

The management of the Georgian international Black Sea port of Poti (the Arabic company Ras Al Khaima Investment Agency) plans to complete reconstruction of the 14th pier under container terminal by late 2009, a source at the port said.

Construction is underway and is likely to complete by late 2009, a source said. All necessary materials and technical equipments, particularly reloaders for construction of the new terminal have been purchased.

It is planned to put into exploitation the new container port in 2003. The new port will be built near the existing one, and will accommodate a container terminal with 2-million tons, a source said.

Container traffic in the port of Poti has increased by 25 percent over the past five years. Therefore, it is necessary to construct a new container terminal and a new port with great potential.

The port has 15 terminals, an official website of the port said.

The Georgian international Black Sea port of Poti plans to ship about 1.5 million tons of oil cargo in 2009. The port plans to ship nearly 8 million tons cargo in 2009.
