As of Aug. 1, there were 43,747 unemployed people, including 45.3 percent - women in Azerbaijan, the State Statistical Committee reported. The number of unemployed was by 28 percent up as compared to the same period of 2008, demonstrating a 0.9 percent drop as compared to January to July. Four unemployed claim for one vacancy in the country.
During the reported period, the economically active people in Azerbaijan made up 4,066,700, including 1,377,800 people as hired workers.
Of the hired employees involved in the production spheres: 20 percent in industry, 4.3 percent in construction, 2.8 percent in agriculture, forestry and fishing, 25.5 percent in education, 19.6 percent in wholesale and retail trade, repair of automobiles, home wares and personal things, 10.1 percent in health and social services, 7 percent in transport and communications, 6.2 percent in communal, social and personal services, 5 percent in operations with real estate and rent, 4.2 percent in state government and defense, and 2.6 percent in other spheres.
In January to June, a total of 5,100 foreign workers were registered at the enterprises and organizations of the country. Of them, 1,400 were involved in industry, 1,600 in construction, 700 in operations with real estate and rent, 600 in wholesale and retail trade, 400 in education and 400 in other fields
Average unemployment benefit is 168.5 manat.
The current exchange rate of US dollar was 0.8040 manat on Aug. 17.
