Trade between Iran and the U.S. in the first seven months of 2009 showed a 13 percent increase compared to the same period of the last year reaching $189 million.

Fars news agency quoted the U.S. Census Bureau stating U.S. exports to Iran in the first seven months of 2009 had a 51 percent increase, reaching $151 million compared to $100 for the same period last year.

Analysts believe the economic crisis and a decline in demand for American products especially in western countries has prompted exporters to look for new markets, and there have been less restrictions on U.S. exporters to sanctioned countries like Iran.

Meanwhile, import of Iranian goods to the U.S. has decreased 43 percent during this period to $38 million. Imports from Iran in the first 7 months of 2008 stood at $66 million.
