President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a waste-to-energy plant processing municipal solid waste, AzerTaj state news agency reported on Nov. 3.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a waste-to-energy plant processing municipal solid waste, AzerTaj state news agency reported on Nov. 3.

The solid waste incineration and energy recovery facility will be built by the French company CNIM, winner of the tender. The plant capacity is 500,000 t / per year. The construction site of 20 hectares is located in the area of the Balakhany landfill.

The plant will generate 231,500 megawatt of electricity from incineration of household waste.

President Ilham Aliyev laid a foundation of the plant by putting a time capsule into the foundation, and covering it with liquid concrete.

President Ilham Aliyev gave recommendations and instructions to builders and wished them every success.
