Turkmenistan and Iran to inagurate new railway project

During his Turkmenistan visit, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will hold meetings with Turkmenistan officials, sign MOUs and also meet with Iranian businessmen, Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Mohammad Reza Furgani was quoted as saying by the Iranian Mehr news agency.

During his Turkmenistan visit, Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will hold meetings with Turkmenistan officials, sign MOUs and also meet with Iranian businessmen, Iranian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Mohammad Reza Furgani was quoted as saying by the Iranian Mehr news agency.

He said that presidents of the two countries will inaugurate the second gas pipeline transferring Turkmenistan's gas to Iran.

The new 65-kilometer-long pipeline will increase the volume of gas transferred from Turkmenistan to Iran up to 14 billion cubic meters annually.

Also, the $650 million Atrak-Gorgan railway project's groundbreaking ceremony will be launched in the presence of the Iranian president during his visit.

Iranian contractors have been chosen to carry out the project.

Meanwhile, Iran and Turkmenistan trade in a number of sectors.

Bilateral trade between Iran and Turkmenistan reached $1.7 billion in 2007, over $1.4 billion of which consisted of Iranian exports to Turkmenistan.
