The eighth meeting about the opening of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line will be held on Jan. 28-29 in Tbilisi, Azerbaijani Transport Ministry said.
Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov will attend the meeting.
A report on the works done since the last such meeting in October 2009 and approval of the Marabda-Kartsakhi 2010 railway budget will be heard at the meeting.
A new 105-kilometer railway branch is planned to be constructed within the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project; 76 kilometers will stretch through Turkey and 29 kilometers through Georgia.
Moreover, a 183-kilometer section of the Akhalkalaki-Marabda-Tbilisi line will be reconstructed in Georgia to increase the capacity to up to 15 million tons of freight per year. A train transition station, changing trains from the existing tracks in Georgia to European tracks is planned to be constructed in Akhalkalaki.
