First ring road to be put into operation in Baku in August 2010

The first ring road will be put into operation in Baku in August this year, the Azerbaijani Transport Ministry JSC "Azeryolservis" (road construction) head Javid Gurbanov said on Monday.

Construction of Baku's ring road will be completed this year. Approximately, it will be implemented in August this year, " Gurbanov said. The length of the road is 21 kilometers.

According to him, this project, prepared in 1996, has been realized for a long time - over four years. During this period it has changed. A decision was made to expand the road from the quad to six-lane.

According to Gurbanov, the new road envisages a new lighting system and reducing the sound. Suppressors of sound are necessary to reassure the residents, as part of the road stretches through the town.

Azerbaijani Ministry of Transport signed a contract with Turkish Mak Yol for the construction of Baku's ring road No 1. The contract is worth $51 million with a total cost of the road worth $ 59 million.

It is planned to begin construction of the second ring road with length of 45 km this year. It will connect the villages Sahil and Tagiyev. This road will allow trucks, moving from the west and the south, bypassing Baku and Sumgait to enter Baku-Russian border highway. "This will allow transit trucks not enter Baku", Gurbanov said.

Another source in the Ministry of Transport said that the construction project of the second ring road envisages that it will stretch along the coast - through Lokbatan, Khojasan, Bilacari, Novkhani, Mahammadi, Pirshaga, Mashtaga, Hovsan. The road will be quad-line.
