At a meeting with the government, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov drew attention to the issue of revenues received by branch offices in foreign currency.

"Receiving significant income, we must also learn how to spend it efficiently and economically," he said.

The president noted incidents of irrational use of resources, in particular by departments and oil and gas companies, the Turkmen government said.

As an example, Berdimuhammedov cited a decision to purchase pallets worth $1.5 million via a foreign company, which has been presented for the president's signature.

"Such equipment could quite possibly be produced in our country without spending foreign currency on its purchase. Thus, receiving considerable income, we must also learn to spend it efficiently and economically," he said.

"We will continue to allocate large funds for the development of the country's oil and gas industry," Berdimuhammedov said.

He emphasized the need for the targeted, cost-effective use of equipment and machinery bought for the fuel and energy complex.
