Georgia's currency reserves hit $2 billion in first quarter

Foreign exchange reserves of Georgia as of April 1 will be $1 980 321.2. The National Bank of Georgia said that reserves were increased by $154 403.2 compared to the state as of March 1.

The increase is stipulated by the next tranche of the International Monetary Fund to the amount of $148 million.

Over the same period in 2009 foreign exchange reserves amounted to $1 490 728.1. The maximum amount of reserves was recorded in May 2008 - at the level of $1 908 203.6.

As of April 1, 2010, Georgia's total official reserve assets amounted to $2 199 234.1.
