OSCE: Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan should reach a trade turnover of $500 million

Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan should intensify trade and economic relations and achieve the trade turnover of $500 million in the next few years, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Kazakhstan's State Secretary and Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev said. Turkmenistan is one of the most active trade partners of Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan is interested in deepening cooperation in transit-transport sphere," he said at the news conference in Ashgabat.

Saudabayev said the construction of the railway route Uzen - Gizilgaya - Bereket - Etrek - Gorgan is an important tripartite project between Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.

"I note with satisfaction the active pace in construction of the Turkmen part of the railroad. Kazakhstan started construction of its segment of the road in September 2009. I am confident that railway will be put into operation in accordance with the schedule," Saudabayev said.


Saudabayev met with the media representatives in Ashgabat after a meeting with Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov. During the meeting, they discussed issues  on Afghanistan, counter-terrorism, energy, water and energy resources, as well as bilateral trade and economic relations, transit and transport and investment cooperation, including the demarcation of the Kazakh-Turkmen border.
