Georgian Railways announces international tender for purchase of rails

Georgian Railways announced an international tender for the purchase of rails. The tender has been announced for the purchase of 43,160 units of rail in the amount of 46.6 million Swiss francs.

Under the tender terms, the rails should be main, the first category, such as R-65, with a length of 25 meters, without slots. Delivery - no later than 31 December 2010.

Bids and qualification date of the applicants must be submitted till July 14.

Applicants must submit a guarantee of a bank or insurance company in the amount of 5 percent of the total cost of the proposed lot. While choosing the winner of the contract to the applicant must submit a bank guarantee for the implementation of its terms in the amount of 5 percent of the contract cost.

Georgian Railways at present implements two major investment project - the construction of railway bypass Tbilisi and the modernization of the railway infrastructure in Georgia, the total value of which is $ 550 million.

The operational length of Georgia's railways is 1,324 km. The system includes 45 tunnels, 1,714 bridges, ferry crossings with Russia and Ukraine.
