EBRD allocates 20 million euro to Georgia

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development supports the draft of Georgian Energy Security. The Georgian office of the EBRD said that the Bank has allocated 20 million euros for the rehabilitation of river Enguri.

The first loan for the rehabilitation of hydroelectric power station was allocated in 1998 to the amount of $48,5 million. The bank continued the realization of the project in 2006. Repairing of the two oldest units and the reconstruction of the third one were financed.

Production capacity will increase by 15 percent within the current project. It will meet regional interests for the consumption of electricity in future.

Enguri hydroelectric power station was built in 1970. Its dam is considered one of the highest in the world.
