Azerbaijan registered roughly 2,309 legal entities in January-June. Ninety-three are state-owned, three are municipal and 1,933 are private entities, the State Statistics Committee reported.
A total of 236 companies have 100-percent foreign capital. Forty-four are joint ventures.
Some 61.7 percent of the enterprises were registered in Baku, 10.6 percent in Aran (Central), 5.6 percent in Absheron, and 5.5 percent in the Sheki-Zagatala economic areas.
The Azerbaijani Tax Ministry registered 18,438 entrepreneurs in the first half of 2010. Most are engaged in entrepreneurial activities without having created a legal entity.
