WB to conduct consultations with Azerbaijan on new partnership strategy

In August the World Bank (WB) plans to conduct consultations with government, parliament and civil society of Azerbaijan regarding the new Country Partnership Strategy, envisaged for four years (2011-2014), WB Baku office said on July 13.

"After this, the strategy will be presented for approval by the WB Board of Directors, which is expected in September or October of this year," the office said.
Within the strategy, the bank plans to annually allocate $250 million for the country. In total, the WB intends to allocate around $1 billion to finance projects in the country over the next four years.

The main idea of the bank is to continue successful projects in the field of road construction, agricultural development.

The Bank is preparing to approve about five new projects in road construction (road Baku-Shamakhi), ecology, education (reform of higher education system).

The World Bank has been cooperating with the Azerbaijani government since 1992, when Azerbaijan joined the World Bank. The Bank has financed 52 projects worth $2.7 billion.
