Georgia begins negotiations on an association agreement with EU. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton will visit the country to attend the first round of these talks to begin July 15, the Georgian foreign ministry reported.

The agreement will improve the Georgia- EU relations in all areas - political, economic, educational, cultural, social and other spheres, as well as in security, the ministry noted.

Georgia will move to a qualitatively different level of relations with EU after the conclusion of the above agreement, Vice-Preme Minister and State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Giorgi Baramidze told journalists.

"This agreement is followed by concrete steps - further investment in the economy and creation of new jobs, more lightweight, and in future, possible visa-free regime with EU countries," he said
