Housing ministers of Iran and Turkey signed an MOU on cooperation in economic, scientific and technical aspects of buildings, urbanization and construction materials production.

Using advanced and inexpensive construction materials and technology, promoting pre-fabricated tremor-  and fire-resistant buildings are other items included in the agreement, the Islamic Republic of Iran News Network reported.

The Iranian Minister of Housing and Urban Development Ali Nikzad and the Turkish Minister of Housing and Public Works Mustafa Demir signed the MOU paving the way for mass-producing housing in Iran.

The Mehr News Agency reported on Saturday that Turkish contractors will build 20,000 condos in the newly founded city of Parand.

Turkish firms are interested in investing on huge urbanization plans, large tourist resorts and new cities in Iran.

In Iran the pace of population increase and migration from rural areas has been very high and consequently the demand for housing has risen to a very high level.

Making adequate shelters available, accessible and affordable to meet the housing need for the ever-increasing populations of the urban settlements has always been and remains to be a challenge.

In such a framework housing becomes one of the most significant issues.

A solution to meet the needs of housing within the framework of a plan which takes into account the characteristics of cities and environmental conditions supports mass housing projects.
