Kazakhstan applies a number of preferences on 409 items within the Customs Union in transition period, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zhanar Aitzhanova said, speaking at a governmental meeting in Astana.

"Kazakhstan applies a number of preferences on 409 items within the Customs Union in transition period. These positions include medicines, medical equipment, raw materials for furniture, paper, chemical industry", Aitzhanova said.

It was reported that the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia operated since January 1, 2010. The Customs Union member-states apply a single customs tariff and a single non-tariff measure.

"The totality of these factors, as well as increasing of consumer market up to 168 million people, coupled with steps taken to support domestic manufacturers should become a powerful incentive to diversify the economy by attracting foreign and domestic investment in manufacturing non-raw material sector of the economy", she said.
