The First International Conference on Payment Card Security and Processing Centers opened today in Baku, Royal Bank Board Chairman Samir Akbarov said.

"This is the first such conference to be held in Azerbaijan," he added. "Its main objective is to help professionals share their experiences and discuss common problems."

Sysnet CIS Business Development Manager Igor Lekgodimov said at the event that 38 percent of the data compromised from payment cards is stolen at hotels.

"Financial institutions, including banks, rank second," he added. "Some 90 percent of the compromised data is stolen because companies do not meet safety requirements."

Lekgodimov said the theft of data at banks compromises their reputation and brand.

The conference is held together with the Irish Sysnet company, which has years of experience working with global banks. The company works in Russia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, the EU, Africa, the United States and Canada.
