Uzbekistan increases cotton-fiber production

Uzbekistan increased cotton-fiber production in January-June by 2.8 percent to 638.642 million tons compared to the same period last year, the Uzbek Statistics Committee reported.
Cotton yarn production increased by 49 percent to 98.374 tons, with cotton fabric production jumping 14.9 percent to 43.666 million square meters.
Uzbekistan reduced cotton-fiber production by 10.1 percent to 1.055 million tons in 2009 compared to 2008.
Textile enterprises increased cotton yarn production by 0.7 percent to 145.54 tons last year.
Uzbekistan ranks sixth in the world for cotton production and third for cotton-fiber exports. The country produces about 3.5 million tons of raw cotton annually and 1.0-1.2 million tons of cotton-fiber.
