Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug.3 / Trend, E.Ismayilov /

Azerbaijan and Turkey have begun preparation of a feasibility of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway construction project, Turkish Transportation Minister Binali Yildirim said within the second meeting of the Coordinating Council on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars transport corridor in Turkey.

He said works on the project have been already begun and the sides review its implementation in detail.

"The sides show great interest in this project. The railway construction can begin before the completion of the railway on the route Baku-Tbilisi-Kars", Yıldırım said.

Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is under blockade due to the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. At present, communication with NAR is carried out either by air or by road through Iran. Construction of the new road will allow transporting cargo to the Republic through railway within the project of opening railway on the route Baku-Tbilisi-Kars.
