Subsistence minimum hits about $100 in Kazakhstan

In September 2010, subsistence minimum per capita calculated on the basis of minimum consumption standards of basic foodstuffs hit 14,353 tenge, the Kazakh Statistics Committee reported

"This figure fell by 1.6 percent compared to the previous month and increased by 8,3 percent compared to September 2009," the committee reported.

The share of the cost on meat and fish hit 18.9 percent, milk, oil, fat products and eggs by 14.6 percent, fruits and vegetables by 15.8 percent, grain products by 8.1 percent, sugar, tea and spices by 2.6 percent.

The subsistence minimum is the required minimum cash income per person equal in magnitude to the minimum consumer basket. Minimum consumer basket is a minimum set of food, goods and services required for human life in physical and monetary terms. It consists of a food basket and a fixed share of expenditure on non-food goods and paid services. The share of the cost of the minimum required non-food goods and services for subsistence minimum in Kazakhstan is set at 40 percent of the cost of the minimum consumer basket.
