Iran ups volume of transit traffic

The volume of transit traffic through the territory of Iran grew by 45 percent in the seven months of this year and amounted to 5.741 million tons compared to the same period of 2010, Deputy Transport Minister Shahriyar Efendi-zade said in an interview with IRINN. The Iranian new year begins in March.
According to him, this year the transit of oil and non-oil products by rail and overland routes of Iran will reach 10 million tons
The international border crossing "Sharamke" located in Khuzestan province will become a transit this year, Efendi-zade said.
Transit of goods from the "Sharamke" point will allow to transport the goods from the countries of Southeast Asia, the Persian Gulf to Iraq and Syria and later to Europe and North Africa that will contribute to profit and the opening of new jobs.
The implementation of the transit of goods across the border point of the Shah-zadeh located near the Ahwaz city of Khuzestan province is under consideration.
