The U.N. Special Program for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA) is holding a ministerial conference in Baku on Dec. 1-2. The event will adopt a roadmap to facilitate trade in the region.
The roadmap will outline measures for building domestic productive capacity to increase the international competitiveness of regional economies, companies, products and services. These measures can be grouped into three components - to increase production capacity and market development in individual sectors such as agriculture, industry and tourism, to diversify the economy and increase the added value of exported goods, to create and strengthen existing institutions and services contributing to the development of productive capacities and the growth of goods and services, to improve the business environment through regulatory reforms, and to advance access to trade information, as well as public-private partnership.
The document will also look to increase cross-border cooperation to develop bilateral trade among SPECA and neighboring countries, and to improve physical, institutional, and trade infrastructure, as well as trade and market access.
