Russian, Iranian airlines to enter Georgian market

Two new international airlines - Russia's Ural and the Iranian "Atear" will start operating in Georgia by late 2010, Tbilisi International Airport's operator "TAV Urban Georgia" said.

In the first quarter of 2011 an agreement will be finalized with four airlines, two of which are Italian - "Meridian" and "Alitalia", one Chinese and one Israeli company.

The Tbilisi Airport was able to establish contacts with new companies at the London Tourism Exhibition.

The airport's capacity is 2.5 million people, but it is currently serving 800,000 passengers. That is why works are underway for new airlines' entry into the market.
