Turkey will be the fastest growing economy in Europe in 2010 and 2011, the State Minister for Economic Affairs, Deputy Prime Minister Ali Babacan said on Wednesday, speaking at the fifth sectoral economic conference organized by the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, Anadolu news agency reported.
"The Turkish economy will grow with the fastest rates," Babacan said.
According to him, in the first half year, the Turkish economy has grown by 11 percent, and according to forecasts of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), as a result of 2010 the annual growth of the Turkish economy will be 8.2 percent, according to forecasts of the International Monetary Fund - 7.8 percent, EU - 7.5 percent.
However, he said, the global economic crisis is still on the agenda of the Turkish Government, as it still affects the country. "This is the biggest crisis in modern economic history. It continues to exert its influence," Babacan said.
According to him, central banks should take bold steps in order to avoid a new wave of crisis.
