The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee jointly with the Iranian customs authorities are taking joint measures to combat drug trafficking across the border of both countries, Committee Chairman Aydin Aliyev said on Friday.
"Today, there is observed an increase in attempts to transport narcotics and smuggling through the Azerbaijani-Iranian border. In addition, a few days officers prevented an attempt to transport the currency worth $1.8 million and this case has already been sent to judicial authorities," Aliyev said.
According to him, the committee holds regular meetings once a month with the Iranian side i to discourage such attempts.
