Uzbekistan intends to invest $6.935 billion in transport infrastructure in accordance with a presidential decree on speeding up infrastructure, transport and communications construction development for 2011-2015.
The document was adopted to ensure the rapid development of production, transport and engineering and communications industries in close cooperation with state programs, as well as to create jobs and and to improve the living standards of the population.
Over the next five years, the country plans to invest $3.394 billion to develop the road transport system, $1.594 billion to develop the railway transport system, and $658.8 million to develop air transport, as well as $1.263 billion on telecommunications, engineering and communication infrastructure and $24.9 million on urban transport fleet renewal.
Under the program, plans include building 2.306 kilometers of roads included in the structure of the Uzbek national highway system by 2016, upgrading 1.030 kilometers of railway track, updating the vehicle fleet of intermodal logistics centers and developing roadside infrastructure and services along the Uzbek national highway.
The program is expected to be financed, by companies involved in the projects - $1.304 billion, by loans from the Uzbek Fund for Reconstruction and Development - $461.1 million, by foreign investments and loans - $3.235 billion, and by budget and target public funds - $1.934 billion.
At present, the total length of roads in Uzbekistan is 146,400 kilometers, including 42,500 kilometers of trunk roads.
