Industrial production in Azerbaijan increases by 0.2 percent

In January-February, industrial production in Azerbaijan totaled 4.9 billion manat, which is 0.2 percent more than in 2010, the State Statistics Committee said on Thursday.

The private sector's share increased by 2.1 percent to 80.7 percent of the total industrial production. Some 92 percent accounted for industrial production, and eight percent for industrial services. Production in the non-oil industry grew by 8.9 percent.

During the reporting period, the volume of production in the extractive industry grew by 0.4 percent to 3.6 billion manat with a special weight of 74.3 percent of the total industrial production. The volume of oil during this period increased to 7.9 million tons and natural gas - 4.1 billion cubic meters.

The share of the processing industry was 926.7 million manat, decreasing by 2.9 percent.
In January-February, a significant increase was observed in motor vehicle, trailer and semitrailer production (by 27.2 times), electrical equipment production (2.6 times), metallurgical production (68.7 percent) and chemical production (88 percent).

Also a significant increase of 2.9 percent was observed in food production. Sausage production grew by 4.4 percent to 310.9 tons, meat by 2.2 percent (42,000 tons), milk by 5.4 percent (118,100 tons), butter by 0 8 percent (3,500 tons), cheese and cottage cheese by by 2.2 percent (7,400 tons), and sugar by 22.9 percent (52,600 tons).

The official exchange rate on March 16 is 0.7933 manat to $1.
