In the first quarter 2011, the industrial production [produced industrial goods and rendered services] in Azerbaijan totaled 7.5 billion manat, which is 0.3 percent more than in 2010, the State Statistics Committee said.
The share of private sector compared to the same period of last year increased by 0.1 percent hitting 79.5 percent of total industrial production. Some 91.9 percent accounted for the production of industrial goods, 8.1 percent - industrial services. Production in non-oil sector of industry grew by 9.8 percent
During the reported period, the volume of production of the extractive industry decreased by 1.3 percent, amounting to 5.5 billion manat with special weight of 74 percent of total industrial production. The volume of oil produced in the reporting period amounted to 12 million tons and natural gas production - 6.3 billion cubic meters.
The volume of processing industry production amounted to 1.4 billion manat increasing by 3.4 percent. In the first quarter, a significant increase was observed in the production of motor vehicles, trailers and semitrailers (2.45 times), production of electrical equipment (2.35 percent), metallurgy (213.4 percent), as well as chemical industry (154.2 percent).
Food production increased by only 8.2 percent. Production of sausage products in the country grew by 6.2 percent and amounted to 491.1 tons, meat - by 2.2 percent (63,000 tons), milk - 5.4 percent (177,200 tons), butter - 0.8 percent (5,300 tons), cheese and cottage cheese - by 2.2 percent (11,100 tons), sugar - 69 percent (88,900 tons).
The official exchange rate is 0.7917 manat to $1 on April 18.
