Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, April 29 / Trend H. Hasanov /
Qatar will host the first meeting of a working committee consisting of participating countries to establish the Qatar-Oman-Iran-Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan international transport and transit corridor, an official Turkmen source said.
The Coordinating Council is expected to be created at the meeting. The intergovernmental agreement signing ceremony was held in Ashgabat on April 25 at the foreign ministerial level.
The route of the new transport route will run from Uzbekistan via Farabi to Turkmenistan through Sarakhs in Iran, and from there, reaching the Persian Gulf - to the ports of Oman and Qatar. Moreover, Russia and China can get the access to new markets. It will make the project more profitable in economic terms.
The initiative of establishing the shortest route to these ports belongs to two Central Asian countries - Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Turkmenistan and Iran implement a trilateral project with Kazakhstan to build a new rail corridor. The railway services of three countries deal with laying railroad tracks with financial support from the Asian Development Bank and Islamic Development Bank.
