Kazakhstan will switch to European construction standards by 2015. This is one of the stages of a large-scale modernization of the technical regulation system in the industry, Caspionet reported.

"Eurocodes" will be introduced along with national standards starting on July 1.

The construction sector development strategy also provides for the reduction of a number of licenses and revision of conformity assessments of performance quality.

A session of the CIS Inter-state council for cooperation in construction activity is currently taking place in Astana. The meeting participants noted Kazakhstan's achievements in saving the sector from the consequences of the recession and expressed their intentions to share similar experiences.

"Some of the developments are purely our own, for example, how to solve the issue with construction share holders", Umirzak Shukeyev, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister said.

"Now, we have a new task which is associated with two industrial programs related to construction and housing property management. Thus, we want to unite them and increase construction volumes extensively once the market recovers. We are now constructing about 6 million square metres and we want to add one million more to this rate annually", he said.
