African countries back French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde to succeed Dominique Strauss-Kahn as the managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Guinea-Bissau Finance Minister Helena Embalo said Friday, DPA reported.

Embalo met Lagarde during the annual assembly of the African Development Bank in Lisbon.

Lagarde was seeking African support for her candidacy at the meeting, the Portuguese news agency Lusa reported.
