A master plan has been approved to develop the Turkmenbashi international sea port in the Caspian Sea and Turkmen merchant marine fleet, through 2020.
The relevant decree was signed by Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The document was adopted to successfully implement the "National program of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan for 2011-2030", to develop the country's maritime and river transport, diversify the industry, and to create new jobs.
According to experts, the full-scale reconstruction of the Turkmenbashi sea port will require investments to the amount of several billion dollars. The priorities include the construction of new sea terminals with multi-function berths capable of receiving vessels of any type and capacity.
Sea transportation is important to Turkmenistan's foreign economic relations.
