The Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan (upper chamber of Uzbek Parliament) has approved at a plenary session on Friday the Law on restriction of distribution and consumption of alcohol and tobacco products.
The draft law was approved by the Legislative Chamber of Uzbek Parliament in July.
The document establishes legal rules regulating the production and sale of alcohol and tobacco products.
In particular, the law prohibits the sale of alcohol and tobacco to persons under 20 years old, advertising alcohol and tobacco products and selling them within 500 meters of educational institutions. Also the law prohibits the use of alcohol and smoking in public places and workplaces.
In addition, the law prohibits importing alcohol and tobacco products containing harmful substances in quantities which exceed the permitted limit.
The Law on Restriction of distribution and consumption of alcohol and tobacco products shall enter into force after approval by the President and being published in the media.
