Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 5 / Trend I. Khalilova /

About 160 parking spaces are planned to be build in Baku within three years, head of the Transport Policy and Economics Department at the Transport Ministry Sadraddin Mammadov told Trend.

"The Transport Ministry has prepared proposals to construct car parks in the capital and submitted them to the Cabinet of Ministers to approve them with the relevant state bodies," he said.

He said that intercept parking is also planned to be built. The sites near the end subway stations and entrances to the city are considered for construction.

"There will be about 10-20 intercept parking," he said. "They will be built at the entrance to Baku in all directions and at the end subway stations, taking into account the future plans of Baku Metro development."

It was earlier reported that the big parking spaces will be open at all entrances to the city - near the metro station "Meshedi Azizbayov", Baku bus station, "Azneft", at the entrance to the town from Zikh, near the metro station "Khalglar Dostlugu".

The construction of the surface and underground parking is planned to be launched from 2011. It will reduce the capital road congestion and traffic jams. Their cost will be determined depending on the design.

The financing sources of the parking construction projects may be different at the expense of the state budget, international financial institutions (the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank), the private sector.

At present, an investment program is under preparation to develop the urban transport in Baku. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) plans to allocate $ 300 million to finance it. The bank is ready to allocate the first tranche of this loan in 2013.
