The Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company (CASPAR) plans to purchase new dry cargo ships, CASPAR head Aydin Bashirov said on Friday.
"New vessels are required to meet the requirements of the international shipping community. At present, tankers with a service life of over 25 years are not accepted by companies such as BP, Chevron and others, and it is the same dry cargo ships," Bashirov said.
He also said a new dock is under construction in Nizhny Novgorod, which will be delivered to Azerbaijan by the end of navigation season on Russia's canals.
"Final work on the construction of the new dock will be carried out in Azerbaijan, which is necessary for CASPAR's experience in this field and accelerating the construction process," Bashirov said.
He said work is also underway on the transfer of the dockyard, which is located in the Ahmedli settlement, in the territory of Seaside Boulevard.
"Some 70 percent of the work within the transfer process has been already completed", Bashirov said.
