Air service on Iraq-Azerbaijan route is expected to be opened within two weeks, Iraqi city of Basra's investment committee deputy chairman Haidar Ali Fadyl, Iraqi Al-Mada agency reported on Saturday.

Fadyl said the decision was taken after several meetings with the Azerbaijani government representatives.

"Azerbaijan is interested in developing economic cooperation with Iraq. We are considering the possibility of cooperation in the spheres of electricity, construction, transport, water supply and production of polyethylene pipes," Fadyl said.

However, CJSC Azerbaijan Airlines did not confirm the fact of opening direct passenger flight to Iraq on Saturday.

CJSC is constantly expanding its flight network. In particular, the airline will receive Boeing -767 passenger plane in 2012, and Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft in 2014, which will provide long-distance flights.

At present, the company has 21 aircrafts on its balance.
