Azerbaijan, Baku, Oct.14 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

The number of taxis operating without a license in Azerbaijan is over 10,000, Azerbaijani Transport Minister Ziya Mammadov said on Thursday.

"The ministry has already begun work to eliminate taxis operating without a license," Mammadov said.

He said the process of passenger transportation must be carried out in accordance with the legal framework. Citizens working in this field must have the appropriate license, distinctive signs and should pay taxes.

Services in passenger transportation, and in particular taxi, should be at a high level. In particular, the country imported taxis London Taxi TX4 for this purpose, the minister said.

A new private company was established called Baku Taxi Company to develop a program launched by the Transport Ministry.

A supply agreement was signed with Shanghai LTI Company, a joint venture between Manganese Bronze Holdings and the Chinese Geely Automobile Holdings Limited. It is the largest contract for the company. The total cost is about $27 million.
