Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan and Heinz Fischer of Austria in a joint communique stressed "the importance of multi-variant pipeline infrastructure to strengthen energy security in both regional and global scale". The communique was published in the press on Friday.
The document was signed during Fisher's visit (Oct. 12-13) to Ashgabat.
The sides mentioned the importance of strengthening the mutual cooperation in the field of energy.
The document says that the sides also announced their joint intention to encourage the strengthening of cooperation in spheres of mutual interest, such as transport, chemical industry, telecommunications, rational use of natural resources and environmental protection, as well as in the fields of culture, science, education, arts, tourism and sports.
The Presidents stressed the role of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a candidate for membership of which is Turkmenistan and the UN Human Rights Council, to which Austria is a member.
The Presidents mentioned the special significance of the UN in addressing global issues such as international security, sustainable development and conflict prevention.
They also stated that terrorism, transnational crime and drug trafficking are among the main threats to stability and security in the world and reaffirmed their readiness to develop cooperation in combating these threats.
During the visit, there were signed several bilateral agreements, including a bilateral agreement on air transport, as well as a cooperation program between the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan and the Ministry for European and International Affairs of Austria in 2012.
Austrian Federal President expressed his gratitude to the Turkmen President and invited him to make an official visit to Austria.
The invitation was accepted with gratitude. Date of visit will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.
