WB to appoint new director of sustainable development department for Europe and Central Asia

The World Bank's director of sustainable development department for the region of Europe and Central Asia will be appointed Laszlo Lavey, WB Baku Office told Trend on Thursday.

Today, Peter Thomson is on this post, whose visit to Azerbaijan Oct. 15 to 22 is the last one within this position. Thomson is leaving his post in connection with his retirement. The main purpose of his visit is to get familiarized with the implementation of WB projects in such fields as agriculture, environment and infrastructure.

"It is expected that Lavey will take the office in coming months. Today, he occupies the position of Director of Sustainable Development Department for the region of Middle East and North Africa," the office said.

Since joining the WB in 1992, the commitments to Azerbaijan total $2.9 billion in 43 projects.
