Azerbaijan identifies medium-term priorities of customs policy

The expanding geography of economic and trade relations of Azerbaijan, increase in import-export operations, as well as the continuing integration into the international economic system make it necessary to pursue a flexible customs policy, said the draft state budget for 2012 and next three years, presented for consideration of the Azerbaijani Parliament.

According to the project, the main priorities of customs policy in 2012-2015 were identified:
- improving the efficiency of customs policies in the socio-economic development and strengthening country's economic security;

- greater use of measures on the current tariff and non-tariff regulation of imports and exports;
- continuing policies aimed at promoting exports;
- creating better conditions for the simplification of import and export operations in the trade and economic transactions;
- continuing work on coordinating customs tariff regulation means with means adopted in the world;

- continuing to improve customs legislation by bringing it into line with international standards;
- full implementation of automated control in the customs system.
In addition, flexible regulation of customs duties continues in the interests of local producers and the competitiveness of their products improves, the project says.
