The China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) has imported from Central Asia about 16.9 billion cubic meters of gas since 2009, the company reported today.
The Central Asia pipeline with a design capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of gas was built by CNPC and launched in December 2009 year.
The pipeline enabled Turkmenistan, a key gas supplier in the region, to expand its export markets.
Ashgabat and Beijing are in talks to double the pipeline's supply capacity.
It is expected that a contract will be signed in the framework of Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov's upcoming official visit to China.
