The annual inflation rate in Georgia was 2.3 percent in October, the Georgian National Statistics Office (Gruzstat) reported today.

The annual inflation rate in Georgia was 2.3 percent in October, the Georgian National Statistics Office (Gruzstat) reported today.

The price of food, beverages and transportation was the main influence on the formation of the indicator.

Thus, the food prices rose by 1.5 percent over the year. The serious price increase was observed on meat (21.8 percent), sugar and sweets (10 percent), oil (6.7 percent), and the price decline was observed on vegetables, melons, potatoes (18.9 percent), fruits and grapes (14.5 percent).

Meanwhile, the increase in fares on public transport (24.3 percent), maintenance of vehicles (23.9 percent) and petroleum products (14.1 percent) also affected the rising inflation.

The monthly deflation was recorded in October. Prices decreased by 0.2 percent in October compared to September 2011.
