Uzbekistan records growth in number of domain names

The number of registered domains in Uzbekistan was 13,000 by late October, the UZ domain zone website reported. The figure rose by 17.3 percent since early 2011.

Of the 13,000 active domain names, about 57 percent are registered by entities and 43 percent by individuals.

Some 82.7 percent are registered by Uzbek residents.

Seven domain registrars operate in Uzbekistan.

The number of domains registered through Tomas was over 31.1 percent of the total figure. It was followed by Billur.Com with 23.4 percent, Arsenal-D with about 24.8 percent, Sarkor Telecom with 8.5 percent, BCC with 8.2 percent, Simus with 1.6 percent and CCC TV with 1.3 percent.

Second level UZ Domain was established in April 1995.

Administrator of second level domain UZ is the Center for development and introduction of computer and information technology UZINFOCOM.

UZINFOCOM was established in 2002 by presidential decree and is a structural division of the Uzbekistan Communications and Information Agency. UZINFOCOM aims to promote the development and implementation of a national ICT and computerization program.
