Travel agencies' proposals to promote the Azerbaijani tourist market are mainly concerned with taxation, First Deputy Minister Vagif Aliyev told Trend on Monday.

"We often meet with representatives of tour companies," he said. "Naturally, they want benefits for themselves. This is mainly concerned with taxation issues. The ministry considers these appeals."

The Azerbaijani Tax Ministry does not consider it appropriate to provide the tourist market with tax benefits. Three years ago, tax benefits worth 50-80 percent of company revenues were given to regional tour facilities. However, these benefits were not cost effective as it is difficult to impose taxes on tourism, the ministry said.

He said the companies also propose reduced licenses costs for tourism activity.
