Baku international port ups cargo transshipment by 20 percent

The Baku International Sea Trade Port transshipped about 5.57 million tons of various cargo in January-October, which is 20 percent more than the figure of 2010, a source at the port told Trend on Friday.

"An increase in transshipment was observed on all types of cargo," the source said. "The figure hit 20 percent within 10 months."

The source said the port transported ferry cargo to the amount of 3.22 million tons in Jan.-Oct., which is 42 percent more than January-October 2010.

The port shipped 2.93 million tons of ferry cargo in 2010, which is 28 percent more than 2009.

The main dry cargo terminal of the port transshipped 950,000 tons of cargo in January-October, which is more by 37 percent than in Jna.-Oct. 2010.

The port transshipped 5.76 million tons of various cargo in 2010, which is 12 percent more than 2009, the source said.

According to the source, 8,180 units of containers were transported during ten months, which is 37 percent less than the figure of the similar period of 2010. The decrease is due to reduced freight volume to Central Asia.
