Azerbaijani non-oil industry ups almost 10 percent

In January-October 2011, Azerbaijan's gross industrial output amounted to 27.98 billion manat, a decrease of 4 percent against the respective period of 2010, the State Statistics Committee told Trend on Friday.

Private-sector industrial output decreased by 7.9 percent against last year period to 81.4 percent of total output. Of gross output, 92.6 percent and 7.4 percent are industrial goods and industrial services, correspondingly.
"Though there was observed a decline in the oil industry, the pace of growth of non-oil industry reached to 9.8 percent," the State Statistics Committee reported.
In the observed period, the extractive industry's output decreased by 6.8 percent to 21.7 billion manat or 77.7 percent of gross industrial output. Oil production fell by 8.9 percent to 39 million tons while natural gas production was 21.6 billion cubic meters, a decrease of 2.5 percent against the respective period of last year.

The manufacturing industry's output amounted to 4.8 billion manat, up 7.6 percent from the respective period of 2010. The growth became possible primarily due to an increase of the production of foods up to 1.8 billion manat, up 6.9 percent from the respective period of last year. The production of sausages increased by 11 percent up to 1,600 tons, cheese and sour milk- by 2.2 percent up to 36,900 tons, meat-by 4.6 percent up to 214,900 tons, milk-by 5.4 percent up to 590,400 tons, butter-by 0.8 percent up to 17,600 tons, and sugar-by 17.2 percent up to 295,500 tons.

As compared to the respective period of 2010, a considerable growth was observed in the production of metallurgic items (86.2 percent); machinery and equipment (60.8 percent); clothes (57.4 percent), chemicals (36 percent), computers and other electronic appliances (30.7 percent), rubber and plastic items (24.5 percent), etc.

The share of electricity, gas and steam production and supply in gross industrial output was 4.4 percent while the share of water production and supply and wastewaters utilization was 0.6 percent.
