The World Tourism Organisation (WTO) predicts the doubling of international tourism throughout the world by 2030, WTO Deputy Regional Director for Europe Cordula Wohlmuther told media today.

"At present, the WTO prepares the forecasts to develop world tourism until 2030,"she said. "Last year, the number of international tourists amounted to 940 million. This figure will reach 1.8 billion by 2030."

She said that currently Azerbaijan has great tourist potential and should develop the service.

"It is necessary to develop the service because the quality is very important." she said. "We must train people straight from school. The environment and security are also important."

Baku has today launched the first workshop within a joint programme with the WTO to increase knowledge in the field of tourism statistics in Azerbaijan. The workshops will last three days.
